PRODUCT :Windows NT
PROD/VER:3.10
OPER/SYS:WINDOWS
KEYWORDS:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
When you are using an IBM Token Ring 4/16 MB card on a computer faster than
a 486/33, the IBM Token Ring 4/16 card may not function correctly. An error
message indicating one of the services failed to start appears during
startup; Event Viewer lists the affected services.
CAUSE
=====
The affected services fail to start because they depend on the IBMTOK to
start properly. The error message for the IBMTOK in Event Viewer indicates
that the adapter returned an invalid value and that the adapter is not
functioning properly.
WORKAROUND
==========
To work around this problem, do one of the following:
- Use the computer at a slower speed.
-or-
- Use a 16-bit or 32-bit card.
